ANNOUNCEMENT: WATVC NO LONGER AFFILIATED WITH COAL CREEK

Okay Folks, I know many of you have been wondering what is going on with the Fall Ride and with the WATVC.

First of all, please allow me to explain things the way I understand them.

Due to unforeseeable circumstances, the Windrock ATV Club will not be hosting any more events with Coal Creek.

In the early part of Fall 2008, I had a meeting with Coal Creek Ventures where we discussed the WATVC crew's willingness to work and promote the Fall Ride and Spring Jamborees for CCV in return for their financial help in giving out (4) four, first year college scholarships for students in Anderson, Roane and Morgan Counties. It was also agreed that any monies that Vendors paid to set up at the event would go towards that fund. The WATVC also voted to fund one more scholarship for a WATVC member to bring the total amount of scolarships to (5) five. Four in conjunction with CCV and one specifically by the WATVC, for a WATVC member. CCV and the WATVC would both share any and all community support, responsibilities, awareness and publicity garnered by this activity.

So, the WATVC came on board about eight weeks before the fall ride and began working the events in order to provide these scholarships. The Fall ride was a success and we also worked to promote the Spring Jamboree last April which also turned out to be successful. Although vendor monies/contributions were down as a result of the economy, we still managed to have decent participation. We promoted the events, passed out flyers/brochures, contacted vendors etc. All preregistration monies, any vendor contributions, etc. with the exception of WATVC merchandise was turned over to CCV. During the Spring Ride, CCV employees sold maps, permits and registrations out of our trailer so that they had control over all incoming monies. Again, all monies generated by the Spring Ride was turned over to CCV. We even redesigned our website to include a pre-registration shopping cart.

I had a meeting with CCV at the end of last month, shortly after the passing of Chuck Whicker, where we discussed the fact that it was time to award the scholarships as well as some other options that may be available for the WATVC to continue to operate without going into the hole each year financially. In other words, to break even at the end of the year instead of taking funds out of our bank account to operate.

A week later, I was told that if the WATVC wanted to break even each year, we needed to reduce our spending in regards to our MAD event and Christmas parties and that CCV was not interested in keeping their agreement in regards to the scholarships. Finally I was told that CCV would pay for (1) one scholarship and if we didn't want that, then that would be fine too. I was told that they were under the impression that the scholarships were to be completely funded by the vendors comntributions and that the amount that was accounted for was minimal. I told CCV that that amount was inaccurate and I was told that maybe Chuck had mixed up the money. Not to mention that all the work that the WATVC did was pretty much not worth anything. This, I told CCV, was NOT RIGHT.

As a result, I informed CCV that the WATVC would go our own way.

The WATVC Officers and BOD held an emergency meeting where it was decided that the WATVC would no longer be affifliated with CCV or any of it's events.

It was also decided to decline their reluctant offer to pay for a single scholarship and that the WATVC would be honored to fund all (5) five scholarships for the winning students. As of now, all scholarships have been paid and five students are now on their way to higher education as a result of these efforts.

Many of you will have differing opinions and will fall on one side or another. That is your choice. The WATVC and I will respect that. As of right now, the duly elected Officers and BOD have made a decision that they feel is in the best interest of the WATVC, its membership and those it impacts. We feel that in light of these events and attitudes, it was the right thing to do. I hope that everyone understands the reasoning for this decision and continues to support the WATVC. The officers and BOD however, will not be supporting CCV. Instead, let’s work on building our membership and have fun riding. We would like to encourage all members to attend the Members Appreciation Day on September 5, 2009 and continue to promote off-road sports.

It is my understanding that CCV will be handling the events themselves.
